Our History
How We Started
Starting out of a Bible study group, the Fremont Evangelical Free Church was formed in 1970 with nine charter members.
In 1971, the young congregation purchased an existing church building at 20th and Lincoln, which continues to be the present location. A large multi-purpose room addition was built in 1984 and served as the worship auditorium until 2003. In June of 2003 a new auditorium was built along with a large lobby and office space. The old auditorium was remodeled for classroom space and fellowship hall with an attached kitchen.
Five fulltime elders (pastors) have served the congregation with two associate pastors since 1994. Pastor Rob Spykstra has served as the full-time elder for six years. Jason Chicoine is serving within our Student Ministries on a part-time basis since the fall of 2002.
From its beginning with just a few families, the congregation now includes some 80 families with a total constituency of about 300. Average attendance on Sunday mornings is in the 250 to 275. A number of other ministries have been developed over the years, including Sunday Bibles study classes, AWANA, Junior and Senior High Youth Groups, Choir and home Bible study groups. The church supports over 13 different missionaries or mission organizations in 4 countries on three continents.
Fremont Evangelical Free Church had always been solidly rooted in our belief that the Bible is God's inerrant and authoritative Word. We believe that God's Word is the source for our overall mission, "To Delight in God and to Delight in People."
Through our existence, we believe it has been the Lord's work and for whatever has been accomplished, thus to Him be the glory. 'Whatever you do, do all to the glory of God."(1 Cor. 10:31)
